What’s happening?
The Ray White Yeppoon C4C – Cycling 4 a Cure team is returning to the Brisbane to Gold Coast Mater Cancer Research Ride, with local sponsors and new riders helping build on last year’s success.
Ray White Yeppoon is again supporting the team, with Director David Bell backing the riders for a second year. He said the decision was easy because of the team’s commitment to the local community and the cause behind the ride.
“When these guys got together and they want to raise money, it’s like, yeah, it was a no-brainer for us,” Mr Bell said.
Team spokesperson Vicki Benson said the group had grown since last year, with new riders joining after seeing what the Central Queensland team achieved. The team is again using its Facebook page, Ray White Yeppoon Cycling for a Cure C4C, to direct supporters to its fundraising link.
Why it matters?
The ride gives a regional team the chance to raise money for cancer research while showing how strong local support can be when businesses, families and riders work together.
Mr Bell said the effort stood out because of the size of the community behind it.
“Honestly, that’s mind-blowing for the size of the community and where we are. I don’t know of anyone else that’s pulled off an effort that well, so you deserve it,” he said.
He said supporting the team was also personal.
“Honestly, couldn’t be happier supporting you guys for the second year in a row. It’s something that’s very close to me personally, and I think you guys are doing a fantastic job. I hope you reach your goals again,” he said.
Local Impact
For Yeppoon and the wider Capricorn Coast, the team has become a strong local example of small communities backing big causes.
Mr Bell said Ray White Yeppoon was proud to support local people putting in real time and effort.
“For them to, you know, the amount of connections they’ve got, and the time and effort that’s gone in, like, they put a lot of effort into fundraising,” he said.
He said the region had become known for doing more than expected.
“We’ve been known for punching above our weight in this region, and supporting the locals and communities no different,” he said.
By the Numbers
- Last year’s team raised more than $76,000, setting a strong benchmark for this year’s campaign.
- Ray White Yeppoon is supporting the team for the second year, after first backing the riders when the campaign started.
- This year’s team includes new riders from Gladstone, Bargara and Brisbane, along with partners and wives of previous riders.
Zoom In
Ms Benson said the team hoped to go further this year after last year’s result gave the group confidence.
“Last year we raised over $76,000. This year we’re hoping to do a little bit better than that,” she said.
She said several sponsors had returned, while others had also come on board.
“David, Ray White Yeppoon is fantastic. David and Riley backed us when we started last year and are continuing this year,” she said.
“And we’ve got additional sponsors on board again this year as well.”
The team has also grown through word of mouth, with more people choosing to ride after seeing the impact of last year’s fundraiser.
“Absolutely fantastic. We’ve got partners and wives of previous riders on board and three other people from out of town, one from Gladstone, one from Bargara and one from Brisbane,” Ms Benson said.
Zoom Out
The Central Queensland team’s result last year caught attention beyond the region, especially because it came from a smaller local base.
Ms Benson said the effort surprised larger teams.
“I think we gave them a bit of a fright last year. I don’t think they’d expected it,” she said.
“But yeah, I think it’s just given them a bit more momentum themselves to try and catch us.”
What To Look For Next?
The team will now focus on lifting donations before the Brisbane to Gold Coast Mater Cancer Research Ride.
With returning sponsors, new riders and strong community support, the group is hoping to pass last year’s total and keep building support for cancer research.
Mr Bell encouraged more local businesses to get behind the riders.
“If anyone is out there wanting to get behind these guys like we did, small business, doesn’t matter big or small, please reach out to Vicki and the team on their Facebook page, or you can send me a message and I can direct you in the right direction,” he said.
