The 2025 Federal Election is fast approaching, and voters across Rockhampton and Central Queensland are preparing to head to the polls. With six candidates already declared for the Division of Capricornia, it’s shaping up to be a lively race. Here’s who’s in the running and what you need to know before Saturday, 3 May.
So far, the following candidates have nominated for Capricornia:

Michelle Landry – Liberal National Party (current MP)

Mick Jones – The Greens

Cheryl Kempton – One Nation

Kerri Hislop – Family First Party
More candidates may still join the race, as nominations remain open until midday on Thursday, 10 April.
Capricornia voters will use compulsory preferential voting. This means every box on the ballot paper must be numbered in order of preference, with ‘1’ placed beside your top choice.
Key dates to remember:

Monday, 7 April (by 8pm) – Deadline to enrol or update voter details

Thursday, 10 April (12 noon) – Close of candidate nominations

Friday, 11 April (midday) – Formal declaration of candidates

Tuesday, 22 April – Early voting begins

Wednesday, 30 April (by 6pm) – Deadline to apply for postal voting

Saturday, 3 May – Election Day
In addition to voting for the House of Representatives, Queenslanders will also vote for six new Senators as part of the half-Senate election.
