What’s happening?

Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) is launched three initiatives to strengthen sustainability and community development in the Rockhampton region. These include:

  • Managing the Gracemere Waste Facility last 25 November.
  • Opening a second Reviva Ibis Reuse Shop at Gracemere last 28 November.
  • Introducing The Tinkerage, a hands-on workshop hub at Lakes Creek Road.

Why it matters?

These initiatives demonstrate RRA’s commitment to the #WASTE2WAGES model, which combines waste diversion, job creation, and community education.

By employing individuals facing barriers to work and promoting sustainable practices, RRA fosters economic opportunities while reducing landfill contributions.

Local Impact

  • Employment Opportunities: Five new team members will be onboarded, trained, and upskilled for roles at the Gracemere Waste Facility.
  • Affordable Access: Locals will have increased access to quality, affordable second-hand goods through the expanded Reviva Reuse Shops.
  • Community Skills: The Tinkerage will empower residents with practical skills in repair, reuse, and upcycling, fostering a culture of sustainability.Zoom In

Milestones in Action

  • Gracemere Waste Facility Management Begins: From 25 November, RRA takes over operations to streamline waste services and support the growing population.
  • Reviva Ibis Reuse Shop Expansion: A second shop opens in Gracemere on 28 November, offering locals affordable second-hand treasures while reducing landfill waste.
  • The Tinkerage Launches: A hands-on workshop space now available at Lakes Creek Road Waste Facility to teach practical skills in repair, reuse, and upcycling.
Reviva Gracemere

The Gracemere Waste Facility takeover marks a strategic expansion to address the growing population’s needs. “Handling operations at the Gracemere site is an exciting step that will allow us to further our mission of employing people facing barriers to employment, while maximising waste diversion,” said Jeff Prater, Queensland State Manager for Resource Recovery Australia.

The new Reviva Ibis Reuse Shop in Gracemere offers locals the chance to donate items like tools, furniture, toys, and gardening equipment while shopping for second-hand treasures. “We’re aiming to divert more waste from landfill while also creating more local jobs for people in need,” added Jeff.

At The Tinkerage, residents will engage in workshops focused on repairing and repurposing items to save them from landfill. “The Tinkerage isn’t just a place to learn – it’s a hub for building practical skills and fostering a culture of reuse and sustainability,” said Kahli Pearson, Rockhampton Site Manager.

The initiatives build on the success of RRA’s operations at the Lakes Creek Road Waste Facility and align with Rockhampton Regional Council’s vision for sustainability. By expanding their footprint and capabilities, RRA reinforces the circular economy and sustainable community practices across the region.
