What’s happening?
Oak Tree Group is offering Australians over 55 a new way to retire—independent living in boutique retirement villages built with seniors in mind. With 34 communities across the Eastern Seaboard and more developments underway, Oak Tree provides a downsized lifestyle with upsized benefits, allowing retirees to maintain independence and stay connected to familiar places and people.
Why it matters
Many seniors want to stay close to their roots while enjoying a simpler, more vibrant lifestyle. Oak Tree makes this possible through purpose-built retirement villages in both regional and suburban locations. “Our vision is to provide an attainable retirement solution that deeply enriches the lives of Australia’s rapidly growing number of retirees,” the Oak Tree team said. These communities are designed to enhance residents’ quality of life at the stage when they deserve it most.
Local Impact
Oak Tree villages are carefully located near essential services such as medical centres, shops, and public transport. Residents enjoy the comfort of familiar surroundings with the added benefit of purpose-built living spaces and a supportive community. “We wanted to build retirement communities in regional areas within the East Coast first, because it was here, we realised there was a lack of retirement options.”

Zoom In
Oak Tree villages are small by design to create closer connections. “The boutique nature of our retirement villages makes it easier to connect with other residents and form friendships,” the team said. If residents prefer a quieter lifestyle, that’s respected too—“It’s your retirement, your way.”
Villas and apartments are purpose-built with seniors’ changing needs in mind. Maintenance and repairs are handled by the Oak Tree team, and costs are included in a weekly fee. “Simply fill out a maintenance request form and your Village Manager will tend to it in a timely manner,” the company explained. Maintenance models may vary between villages.
Gardening is also taken care of, though residents who enjoy gardening are welcome to continue. Some villages even offer communal vegetable gardens. Importantly, Oak Tree welcomes pets under a village-wide policy to support peaceful co-living.
Zoom Out
Oak Tree’s commitment to keeping seniors close to their local communities addresses a major gap in retirement options across regional Australia. Owned by Aware Super, Oak Tree benefits from strong, long-term financial backing and is operated under the Retirement Villages Act. This ensures residents experience financial certainty, personal safety, and trusted management.
Residents enjoy peace of mind with gated communities at night and the freedom to “lock up and leave” at any time. Whether it’s quality time with family, travel, or relaxation, Oak Tree allows retirees to make the most of their time and independence.
What to look for next
Oak Tree will continue to expand its footprint with new developments in both suburban and regional locations, ensuring more seniors can enjoy a personalised, independent retirement lifestyle without leaving the communities they love.
