What’s happening?
Rockhampton students will lace up for National Walk Safely to School Day this Friday, 16 May 2025. The annual event supports safer streets, healthier kids, and smarter school travel.
Why it matters
Led by the Pedestrian Council of Australia, this initiative encourages walking as a key form of exercise and a solution to school zone traffic chaos.
“Until they are 10, children must always hold the hand of an adult when crossing the road,” said CEO Harold Scruby. He added, “Children need at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day.”
Local Impact
Rocky schools are invited to promote walking to school and offer Healthy Breakfasts on the day. Parents are urged to participate by walking with their kids.
