What’s Happening

Rugby league royalty is heading to Rockhampton for a major fundraising lunch supporting local junior footy.

Wally Lewis, Gene Miles and Matt Gillett will headline the FOGS Regional Tours Gala Lunch on Friday, 5 June.

The event will be held at Rockhampton Leagues Club, with proceeds supporting grassroots junior rugby league across Rockhampton and surrounding areas.

Former Origin Greats, known as FOGS, brings Queensland State of Origin legends into regional communities across the state.

This June, the organisation will make Rockhampton its home for a two-day regional visit.

The Gala Lunch is proudly supported by Maynard Cattle Co. and will bring fans, businesses, clubs and families together.

Lewis, Miles and Gillett are three of Queensland rugby league’s best-known names.

Together, they played a combined 71 State of Origin games and helped shape some of the Maroons’ biggest moments.

The lunch will give guests the chance to hear their stories and enjoy an afternoon built around Queensland rugby league.

Why It Matters

The visit is about more than a lunch with Origin legends.

FOGS will also visit local schools and businesses before hosting a junior footy clinic for players in the Rockhampton junior rugby league catchment.

For young players, that kind of afternoon can stay with them for years.

The fundraising focus also gives the event a direct local purpose.

Money raised will go back into Rockhampton junior rugby league, helping clubs support the next generation of players.

It also keeps the pathway to the Maroon jersey visible for young footballers across the region.

By the Numbers

  • 71 State of Origin games have been played between Wally Lewis, Gene Miles and Matt Gillett, giving fans access to decades of Maroons history in one room.
  • $28,000 was raised in 2025 through the Rockhampton FOGS event, supporting junior rugby league clubs across the region.
  • Tickets are $189 for individual seats, while a table of 10 is priced at $1,799 for the Rockhampton Gala Lunch.

Local Impact

Rockhampton has long been a rugby league town, and this event gives the community another way to back the game.

All profit raised will go directly into the Rockhampton junior rugby league.

The funds will be split evenly between each club in the local competition.

That means the support will not sit in one place. It will reach clubs across the catchment.

For families, volunteers and young players, that support can help keep local footy strong.

Zoom In

The Gala Lunch will be held at Rockhampton Leagues Club on Friday, 5 June.

Guests can expect great food, prizes and rugby league memorabilia up for grabs.

The official event page also lists a live question and answer session, a panel discussion, a two-course lunch, drinks and auction items.

The event runs from 12 pm to 3 pm AEST, with ticket sales closing on 29 May.

Zoom Out

FOGS uses its regional tours to bring former Origin players closer to Queensland communities.

In Rockhampton, that means the visit reaches beyond fans in the room.

The school visits, business visits and junior clinic help connect young players with former stars of the game.

It also reinforces the role regional Queensland plays in rugby league’s future.

What To Look For Next?

Rockhampton’s support will shape how much can be raised for junior clubs this year.

After last year’s $28,000 result, FOGS and the local rugby league community are aiming to go bigger.

With Wally Lewis, Gene Miles and Matt Gillett attending, the lunch has a strong chance of drawing major local support.

Tickets are available at fogs.com.au/events.
