What’s Happening?
Rockhampton teenager Gabrielle Stewart has earned selection for the 2026 Australian Age Group Triathlon Team. She will represent Australia in Pontevedra, Spain, from 23 to 27 September 2026.
Gabrielle, a Year 10 student at The Cathedral College, will compete in two championship events. She will contest the Female 16 to 19 Age Group Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships.
She will also compete in the World Triathlon Age Group Mixed Team Relay World Championships.
Why It Matters
At only 15, Gabrielle will race in a category extending to 19 years of age. Her place reflects results from designated national selection events held throughout Australia.
The selection places her among Australia’s top age group triathletes. Representing Australia at a world championship is a major honour that recognises her athletic accomplishments.
Local Impact
As a regional athlete, Gabrielle has faced challenges that many metropolitan competitors do not. These include limited physical access to specialist coaches, criterium cycling tracks and tartan running tracks.
However, she has remained committed to training and continues pursuing her goals. Her selection places a Rockhampton school student among Australia’s leading age group triathletes.

- The sprint course includes a 750-metre swim, a 20-kilometre cycle and a five-kilometre run.
- The relay team includes four Australian age group athletes. Each completes a 250-metre swim, six-kilometre cycle and 1.5-kilometre run.
- Gabrielle secured selection through three qualifying events, including two on the Gold Coast and one in Bargara.

Earlier this year, Gabrielle represented Queensland at the National School Triathlon Championships on the Gold Coast. Her world team selection followed that state appearance and strong results in designated qualifying events.
