Celebrating Excellence in Tourism: Four Wins for Rockhampton

Rockhampton’s tourism prowess was on dazzling display at the 2023 Queensland Tourism Awards, securing four prestigious accolades that spotlight the region’s vibrant appeal.

Hosted by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, this event recognises outstanding contributions within the state’s tourism sector.

Glistening Achievements

Rockhampton’s standout winners included Explore Rockhampton, claiming Gold in the ‘Richard Power Award for Tourism Marketing and Campaigns‘ category. Their ‘Ultimate Mates Trip‘ campaign, a collaboration with Live To Create, attracted a staggering 580,000 visitors to the region, showcasing the best of the Beef, Barra, and Burnout Capital of Australia.

Rare Spares Rockynats clinched BRONZE in the ‘Major Festivals and Events‘ category, drawing over 56,000 attendees and injecting $6.18 million into the local economy.

Meanwhile, Empire Apartment Hotel triumphed with two Silver awards in the ‘Business Event Venues‘ and ‘4-4.5 Star Deluxe Accommodation‘ categories.

Redefining Excellence

Mayor Tony Williams hailed these wins as a testament to Rockhampton’s prominence in Queensland’s tourism landscape.

The accolades position the city as an eminent tourism and events hub, enticing visitors with its diverse offerings.

Zac Garven, Advance Rockhampton’s Tourism and Events Manager, highlighted the region’s unique appeal.

He emphasised how these awards spotlight the collaborative efforts of local businesses, operators, and the Advance Rockhampton team in showcasing Rockhampton’s distinct essence.

Future Horizons

The recognition garnered not only solidifies Rockhampton’s standing but also augments its profile as a premier tourism and event destination. 

These wins pave the way for Rockhampton’s representation at the Australian Tourism Awards in March 2024, as Explore Rockhampton gears up to showcase its excellence on a national platform.

A Regional Triumph

Celebrations extended beyond Rockhampton, with Great Keppel Island Hideaway securing silver in the ‘3-3.5 Star Accommodation‘ category, underscoring the region’s diverse and compelling offerings.

The Queensland Tourism Awards have showcased the innovation and commitment of Queensland’s tourism industry, affirming the state’s status as a top-notch holiday destination.
