What’s happening?
Major traffic changes are rolling out in Rockhampton this April as part of the Rockhampton Ring Road – North and South Package. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is upgrading signals at the Yaamba Road and Yeppoon Road intersection and beginning access road works to local businesses.
From 4am Saturday 12 April to 6am Monday 14 April, traffic lights will be shut off while crews work on electrical upgrades.

Additionally, from Monday 28 April to Wednesday 7 May, the access road near Capricorn Motel and Dreamtime Cultural Centre will have single-lane closures for fencing and landscaping.

An Easter construction shutdown will also occur from 5pm Thursday 17 April, with work resuming Monday 28 April 2025. “Traffic movements will be managed under Queensland Police Service and traffic personnel control,” the department advised.
Why it matters?
These changes support the long-term development of the Rockhampton Ring Road, easing future congestion. However, they may cause short-term delays during upgrades and shutdowns.
Local Impact
Local access remains open to all businesses and emergency services, but drivers will need to navigate lane closures and reduced speeds. TMR reminds motorists to stay alert and follow all traffic directions on site.
“Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the roadworks area,” TMR said.
