What’s happening?

Applications are now open for the latest round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), providing financial support for arts projects commencing on or after Friday, 11 April 2025. Delivered in partnership between the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Rockhampton Regional Council, the program aims to promote local arts and culture.

Artists and arts organisations can apply under two funding categories:

  • Development Grants – Supporting career development, skills workshops, and creative work with up to $5,000 available.
  • Project Grants – Covering public exhibitions, performances, and festivals with up to $10,000 in assistance.

Why it matters?

For more than three decades, RADF has been a catalyst for arts and culture in Queensland, offering funding certainty for regional councils and local artists. Minister for Education and the Arts John-Paul Langbroek reaffirmed the government’s commitment, stating:

“For 34 years, Arts Queensland has partnered with regional councils to co-invest in local arts initiatives that generate jobs, community engagement and help boost local economies.”

The program plays a key role in securing cultural tourism opportunities, fostering artistic talent, and preparing local artists for events like the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Local Impact

Rockhampton Regional Council Communities, Culture and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson highlighted the diverse range of projects supported through RADF, saying:

“RADF welcomes applications from all genres, whether it is visual arts, crafts, performing arts, collections and museums, new media and more.”

Past recipients include:

  • Capricornia Silver Band – Funded for young musicians’ professional development.
  • Locally written play – Supported through a rehearsed public reading.

“It is a grassroots funding program that specifically focuses on projects that are relevant to the local community. I am very excited to see what projects are proposed for the next round,” Cr Wickerson said.

By the Numbers

  • More than 1 million people engage with RADF-supported programs across Queensland each year.
  • RADF provides funding certainty for 59 regional councils, ensuring sustained arts investment.
  • Quick response grants of up to $1,000 are also available for time-sensitive projects outside grant rounds.

Zoom In

This funding round represents an opportunity for Rockhampton’s creative sector to secure financial support for projects that enrich the community and contribute to the local economy. The program provides up to 80% of total project costs, reducing the financial burden on artists.

Zoom Out

The Queensland Government’s multi-year RADF investment aims to streamline processes, reduce red tape, and ensure ongoing support for regional arts. Minister Langbroek emphasised: “The Crisafulli Government will continue to support these vital collaborations.”

With the arts sector playing an increasing role in regional tourism and cultural identity, RADF serves as an essential funding mechanism for local talent.
