What’s Happening
Powerlink has awarded its second major Central Queensland contract to Consolidated Power Projects, known as CPP.
The company will deliver part of the critical Calvale to Calliope River Reinforcement Project. The work will connect existing infrastructure near Gladstone with a proposed substation south of Mount Larcom.
Why It Matters
The reinforcement will prepare Powerlink’s network for Central Queensland’s changing energy landscape.
Alongside transporting electricity, the infrastructure will create opportunities for local businesses and support regional involvement during construction.
Local Impact
CPP has placed local relationships at the centre of its delivery approach. This includes working with businesses, Traditional Owner groups and the broader public.
The workforce forecast also gives Central Queensland communities a direct role in delivering the project.
By The Numbers
- CPP will construct 20 kilometres of transmission line between Powerlink’s Calliope River Substation and the proposed new Gladstone West substation.
- Approximately 150 workers will be employed for this work. About 30 per cent are projected to come from Central Queensland communities.
- Three business sessions will be held across Gladstone, Biloela and Frenchville between 8 and 10 September.

Powerlink Chief Executive Dr Seán Mc Goldrick said CPP had the credentials required to deliver major transmission projects.
“The Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Line Reinforcement Project is critical for preparing our network for the changing energy landscape in Central Queensland,” Dr Mc Goldrick said. “Along with the new transmission line, CPP will also deliver upgrades to our Calliope River Substation and oversee the installation of a 500MVA transformer.
“Our work in Central Queensland extends beyond transporting electricity, this infrastructure provides opportunities for local businesses and CPP share that vision.”
CPP General Manager Operations Queensland Andrew Timms said local relationships were important to the project’s successful delivery.
“We understand this project is as much about people as it is about infrastructure – maintaining strong relationships with local business, Traditional Owner groups and the broader public is central to how we deliver,” Mr Timms said. “We thank Powerlink for their trust in CPP to deliver this work.”

The contract announcement follows Powerlink’s commitment to a Community and Social Investment Program for Central Queensland.
Powerlink is also inviting regional businesses to meet its delivery partners at sessions organised with State Development. Attendees can learn about supply opportunities and receive tendering tips.
The sessions will be held at:
- The Club Hotel in Gladstone on Tuesday, 8 September, from 3pm to 5.30pm.
- Biloela Bowls Club on Wednesday, 9 September, from 3pm to 6pm.
- Frenchville Sports Club on Thursday, 10 September, from 3pm to 6pm.
