What’s happening?
Kingsley College officially opened its new Design Lab Building last September 8. The ceremony marked a milestone in education, unveiling a facility designed to give students modern and inspiring spaces to grow their creative and technical skills.
Government representatives, including local federal member Michelle Landry, local state member Donna Kirkland, and local council representative Grant Mathers, joined the college community to celebrate the occasion. Several community organisations also attended, highlighting strong local support for the project.

Why it matters
The Design Lab Building represents a major investment in innovative education and reflects Kingsley College’s vision of equipping students with hands-on skills for the future. Earlier this year, the college’s Primary Stage 01 Building, designed by the same team at Design and Architecture, was recognised with the prestigious J.W. Wilson Award for Building of the Year by the Australian Institute of Architects.
Principal Michael Appleton said, “We are incredibly proud to provide this opportunity to our students, which represents our commitment to providing hands-on learning. This facility will not only enhance our programs but will also serve as a hub of innovation, inspiring the next generation of designers and creative thinkers.”

Local impact
The new building strengthens Kingsley College’s growing reputation as a forward-looking institution on the Rockhampton education landscape. The facility will not only benefit students but also create a venue for events, collaboration, and innovation across the wider community.
