Revitalising a Community Hub

The Mount Morgan Aquatic Centre, currently undergoing a $6.5 million rejuvenation, is poised to reclaim its status as a local gem. Scheduled to reopen in February 2024, this project marks a significant milestone with the installation of a new 25-metre, eight-lane pool, complemented by ongoing work on the pool’s filtration system.

Shaping a Collective Vision

Progressing steadily, the development now focuses on key phases:

  • Amenities Building Construction: Including roof and veranda
  • Pool Enhancement: Tiling and filtration plant installation

Engaging the community in decision-making was pivotal in determining the amenities building’s design, showcasing a collective effort to shape this development.

Leaders Embrace Transformation

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams expressed his elation, highlighting the investment as a testament to the local community and the robust partnership with the Queensland Government. “I eagerly anticipate witnessing the locals and visitors relish these facilities,” Mayor Williams enthused.

Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford echoed the sentiment, underscoring the significance of this asset and the opportunities it will unlock for Mount Morgan. “A contemporary, competition-length pool will introduce myriad new possibilities,” Rutherford added.

Commitment to Community Growth

The sentiment was mirrored by Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke, emphasising the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to regional Queensland’s prosperity.

This initiative, funded by the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund and a collaboration between the Queensland Government, mineral resource industry stakeholders, the Queensland Resources Council, and Rockhampton Regional Council, demonstrates a shared commitment to community improvement.

As the project progresses steadily, anticipation mounts for its grand reopening, set to enrich Mount Morgan’s lifestyle and recreational landscape.
