What’s happening?

Modlites are in for a huge month of racing across Queensland, starting with the CJS Site Solutions Dash for Cash this weekend (13 April 2025) in Kingaroy, followed by Sprint Car action in Toowoomba, and finishing with the Queensland Title at Gladstone Speedway over Easter weekend (19–20 April).

“This will be about our third CJS Site Solutions Dash for Cash,” said Modlite driver Abi Meehan. “It’s a great event, a bit of a different format.”

Kingaroy’s meet features a three-heat draw system leading into a final, designed to give every racer a fair go. “Everyone gets an even starting position across all the heats,” Meehan said. “Then from there, you qualify for the feature race.”

Toowoomba will see elite Sprint Car action, including big names like Lockie McHugh, Luke Oldfield, and James McFadden. As Bob McCosker, Managing Director of McCosker Contracting, put it: “It’s just going to be a class of race Central Queensland has never seen before… absolute excitement plus, hours and hours, two days, full stop.”

Why it matters?

These lead-up events shape the form and confidence of drivers ahead of the Modlites Queensland Title at Gladstone. “This weekend is a great hit-out for us for the Queensland titles the following week in Gladstone,” said Meehan.

Gladstone’s race marks a major state event, attracting title-holders from across Australia. “We’ve got the current newly crowned Australian champion, Terry Lowenvolt, and the current Queensland champion, Corey,” Meehan confirmed. “It’ll be a field full of all title holders, past and present.”

Local Impact

Kingaroy and Toowoomba both offer a chance for fans to see national-level talent up close. But Gladstone is where everything peaks. “The Gladstone track is a beautiful track,” said Meehan. “The Modlites go fantastic there any time we turn up.”

She added, “All the effort that’s been put in by the Gladstone Auto Club, McCosker Contracting, and all the volunteers—it’s always the feedback we get.”

The races support tourism and boost local business across three major regions.

By the Numbers

  • 40 Modlites are nominated for the Gladstone Queensland Title—well above the 25–30 cars seen at regular events.

  • 3 heats plus a final is the format for both Kingaroy and Gladstone.

  • Multiple Australian title-holders will battle it out on Easter weekend.

Zoom In

Gladstone’s track offers a unique challenge. “It’s quite wide and a little bit banked,” Meehan explained. “It’s a sort of a hairpin corner into one and two and a nice wide corner at three and four… you get some really good racing.”

McHugh, unbeaten at Gladstone last season, is expected to be a major threat again. “Locky will be 100% aiming to take out both nights,” said McCosker. “But he’s got massive competition this year.”

Zoom Out

Queensland Modlite drivers recently swept the podium at the Australian titles. That momentum continues as racers travel from across the country to compete. The combined strength of these events reinforces Queensland’s status as a motorsport stronghold. “It’ll be a really competitive field,” said Meehan. “And a great show.”

What to look for next?

All eyes turn to Gladstone Speedway on 19–20 April, where the Queensland Title will be decided. With form set in Kingaroy and Toowoomba, the final showdown will bring together the best drivers, best track, and the biggest crowd.
