What’s happening?

The Rockhampton Bridge Club has announced that its Saturday session will now start at 1.30 pm. Alongside this change, the club has a packed calendar of events through October and November, including novice competitions, the annual Presidents Cup, and the AGM with a community BBQ.

Why it matters

Bridge is more than a game for the Rockhampton community. Since its founding in 1970, the club has been a hub for learning, competition, and connection. The coming events offer opportunities for both seasoned players and newcomers to take part in the long-standing tradition.

Local impact

The club is opening its doors to the next generation of players with an introductory six-lesson “Learn to Play Bridge” course beginning Saturday 1 November. Classes will run from 9.30am to 11.30am at the clubrooms on Graeme Acton Way.

By the numbers

  • The Rockhampton Bridge Club was founded in 1970, with its first meeting at the Commercial Hotel.

  • In 1978, the club purchased its building in Victoria Park, which was later expanded in 1991.

  • The new Learn to Play Bridge course will offer six lessons, starting on 1 November.

Zoom In

The club’s history is built on community effort. Members fundraised for their own building in 1978, with extensive restoration work done mostly by volunteers. In 1991, the decision to double the size of the clubhouse enabled the club to host congresses, with the first annual event held in 1992.

Zoom Out

Bridge continues to thrive in regional Queensland, with clubs like Rockhampton offering not only tournaments but also social spaces and teaching opportunities. Their commitment to both tradition and future growth helps keep the game alive and accessible.

Players can look forward to:

  • 18 Oct – Novice Pairs, first round and BBQ.

  • 25 Oct – Novice Pairs, week two.

  • 28 Oct – Overs and Unders.
