What’s happening
The Salvation Army has launched its Christmas Appeal across Central Queensland, urging locals to give support to people facing pressure this festive season. The appeal aims to help households dealing with rising costs, limited income, and emotional strain during what should be a joyful time.
Why it matters
Many local families are struggling with high prices and mounting bills. For some, even planning a meal or covering power costs is already a worry. The appeal helps ensure food, gifts, and support reach people who feel Christmas is out of reach.
Rendle Williams, External Communications Manager for Queensland, said the need is clear. “For the Salvos, Christmas is the busiest time of the year, and this year will be no different,” he said.
“All year, we have been journeying alongside the Central QLD community, and we know that Christmas will prove to be a real challenge for many people. For some, the idea of celebrating Christmas may seem out of reach, as they can’t even work out where their next meal or utility bill will come from, both for themselves and their children.
“That’s why The Salvos are here, to support you when you need it most. Whether it is for practical support like food or presents, or if you are feeling lonely or isolated this Christmas, please reach out to The Salvation Army. We are here for you.”
Local Impact
The appeal will directly support Central Queensland families who need food, gifts, emergency help, or emotional support during December. Local Salvos centres will also host community events to bring people together during the festive season.

The national $29 million appeal helps meet rising demand for emergency relief. The appeal supports families dealing with high living costs, job loss, housing stress, and loneliness. The need increases every Christmas, and the Salvos say community support remains essential.
What to look for next
Locals can contact the nearest Salvation Army centre for Christmas event details, support options, and ways to donate. People can also give online, call 13 SALVOS, or donate at any Salvos Store.
Williams said the appeal relies on local generosity “The Salvos can’t support people this Christmas without the generosity of our local community, so we would love to see everyone dig deep this year in whatever capacity you are able to. That could look like donating to our Christmas Appeal, volunteering, or attending our local events. Reach out to us, and together we can be the hope that our community desperately needs this Christmas.”
