The Great Dunny Hunt

What’s Happening?

From Monday 14 April to Sunday 11 May 2025, Continence Health Australia is inviting locals to join The Great Dunny Hunt. This national initiative encourages Australians to uncover and register unlisted public toilets on the National Public Toilet Map.

Why It Matters?

This campaign supports over 7.2 million Australians living with incontinence. Easy toilet access changes lives, especially for those needing urgent or regular stops. According to Continence Health Australia Chief Executive Jim Cooper: “We believe there are thousands of public toilets across the country that remain unaccounted for on the National Public Toilet Map.”

He added that many of these hidden toilets exist in “small towns, parks, libraries, service stations as well as newly built community spaces.”

Local Impact

Residents, especially those travelling this Easter and school holidays, can make a real difference by adding toilet locations. Local businesses—like fuel stations, retail centres, and parks—may have toilets not listed yet.

Mr Cooper urged participation from businesses too: “We are asking businesses as well as individuals to share their knowledge and help us update the map.”

By the Numbers:

  • 24,200 public toilets are already listed—but many are still missing.

  • 3.2 million searches happen on the National Public Toilet Map every year.

  • 49% of people with continence issues avoid long trips without knowing toilet locations.

  • A Queensland audit found 100+ toilets missing from the map in a single check.

Zoom In

Toilets can be uploaded with details such as adult change facilities, baby change, dump points, ambulant access, sharps and sanitary disposal, drinking water, and even transfer-side orientation. Every facility added could change someone’s day, or life. “These toilets are essential for many Australians, particularly those managing continence issues,” said Mr Cooper.

Zoom Out

Incontinence can impact lives more broadly than people realise:

  • 42% of surveyed Australians with incontinence hesitate to leave home.

  • 25% struggle to manage daily activities.

  • 22% report it affects their relationships.

And the economic impact is significant: In 2023, the total cost of incontinence was $66.6 billion, with $33.8 billion in lost wellbeing.
