What’s Happening?
Beca has acquired CQG Consulting, a regional Queensland environmental and planning specialist consultancy based in Rockhampton.
The acquisition brings CQG into Beca’s Australian business and strengthens Beca’s presence across regional Queensland. CQG’s local teams will continue working with clients, now supported by Beca’s wider engineering, advisory and professional services capability.
CQG adds specialist knowledge in environmental science, ecology, GIS, stakeholder engagement, planning and approvals advisory. This strengthens Beca’s early-stage environmental advisory, planning and engagement work across the region.
The move also supports Beca’s growth strategy in Australia, particularly across water, energy and defence.
Why It Matters
For Beca, the acquisition builds a stronger base in regional Queensland at a time when major opportunities are developing across water, defence, energy and infrastructure.
For CQG, the deal keeps its local client relationships in place while expanding support for larger and more complex programs.
Andrew Mailer, Managing Director, Australia, Beca, said regional Queensland was a deliberate choice for the company’s growth agenda in Australia.
“It brings talented Queenslanders into our business and allows us to offer greater diversity of expertise to CQG’s strong client base across regional Queensland,” said Andrew.
“The connection of Beca’s broad engineering and advisory capabilities in infrastructure, energy, industrial, defence and water, with the expertise and deep relationships that CQG’s people value, will increase our impact on communities in regional Queensland.
“Combined with recent organic growth, this takes Beca Australia past 1,000 people nationwide, a significant milestone that reflects our long-term commitment to growing our impact in Australia, particularly in regional areas.”
By the Numbers
- The transaction was completed on 1 June 2026, setting a new phase for both businesses in Australia.
- More than 45 CQG specialists will join Beca, adding local skills across environmental and planning services.
- Beca Australia has now passed 1,000 people nationwide, reflecting its continued growth across the country.
Local Impact
CQG’s regional Queensland presence remains central to the deal. The consultancy is headquartered in Rockhampton and also has offices in Gladstone, Mackay, Townsville and Brisbane.
That local footprint matters for clients who rely on CQG’s regional knowledge, environmental assessment work, planning advice and stakeholder relationships.
The same CQG teams will continue providing personalised support to public and private sector clients. They will now have access to Beca’s wider services across advisory, engineering, project and asset delivery.

“We have built our business on trusted relationships, outcome-focused advisory and a deep understanding of the needs of our clients, First Nation groups and communities throughout regional Queensland.
“Becoming part of Beca preserves what makes CQG special while expanding our ability to support clients with larger, more complex programs over the long term.”
