What’s Happening?

Brisbane Broncos star and KIIS 97.3 host Corey Oates is returning to his hometown of Baralaba. He will take part in a special live broadcast from Baralaba Bowls Club.

Robin Bailey and Kip Wightman from KIIS 97.3’s Robin, Kip & Corey will join Oates. Rugby league legend Wally Lewis will also make the trip.

Together, the breakfast show team will head to Central Queensland to celebrate the town where Oates’ journey began.

Why It Matters

The visit brings Oates back to the community he credits with helping shape who he is today. At the same time, the broadcast will showcase Baralaba to the show’s wider Queensland audience.

Oates said returning with his co-hosts, Wally Lewis and listeners made the event particularly meaningful.

“Baralaba will always be home for me, so getting the chance to come back and share that part of my life with Robin and Kip, alongside Wally Lewis and our listeners is really special. So much of who I am today was shaped by this community, and I can’t wait to return, catch up with familiar faces and showcase this incredible part of Queensland to the rest of the state.”

Local Impact

Baralaba Bowls Club will host the special broadcast, placing the local venue at the centre of the event.

During the visit, Oates also plans to sign the local bowls club wall. The signing will mark his return to his hometown.

  • 9 October is the date of the special Baralaba broadcast.
  • Four lucky fans will join the radio team on the regional Queensland adventure.
  • 6am to 10am is the scheduled live broadcast time from Baralaba Bowls Club.
