Queensland Child Protection Week (QCPW) will recognise Central Queensland Indigenous Development (CQID) and Refocus with the ‘Our Children Our Future’ award. This accolade highlights their collective contributions to improving the safety and well-being of First Nations children through cultural connection and community-led initiatives.

- Reunification and Family Connections: CQID and Refocus have collectively reunified up to 30 children with their families, working diligently to reconnect these children with their cultural heritage and family ties.
- Strengthening Cultural Bonds: Together, they have strengthened 196 family connections, ensuring that children grow up with a deep understanding and connection to their cultural roots.
- Cultural Competency Training: Both organizations have been instrumental in enhancing cultural competency among carers, providing training and resources that have reached over 300 carers across Central Queensland.
- Community Engagement: Over 1,500 First Nations families have been engaged in various programs and initiatives led by CQID and Refocus, creating a stronger, more connected community.

James Mundy and Bella have played pivotal roles in developing and implementing key programs within CQID and Refocus. CQID’s Delegated Authority program empowers First Nations community-controlled organizations to make critical decisions for children, focusing on cultural reconnection and family ties. Refocus has driven efforts to improve support and resources for First Nations children, addressing their overrepresentation in out-of-home care.

CQID operates across Central Queensland, including key regions like Rockhampton and Gladstone, while Refocus is focused on addressing challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care.
