What’s happening?
Carers Queensland is hosting its first ever Family Fun Day in Rockhampton on Thursday 2 October 2025 at the Robert Schwarten Pavilion, Rockhampton Showgrounds. The free community event runs from 2 pm to 6 pm and is part of National Carers Week (12–18 October).
The day is designed to honour the contributions of unpaid carers and provide them and their loved ones with an inclusive space to celebrate together.
Why it matters
Unpaid carers provide essential daily support to family and friends living with disability, chronic illness, mental health conditions, or ageing needs. Their contributions often go unseen, but their impact is vital to the wellbeing of communities.
“We heard from carers that they wanted an opportunity to celebrate with their loved ones, especially those who find it hard to arrange alternative care,” Carers Queensland CEO Jim Toohey said. “This event welcomes the whole family and aims to raise awareness of carers from all walks of life so we can reach as many carers as possible—including male carers who are often under-recognised.”
Local impact
This is the first Family Fun Day hosted in Rockhampton after the city secured 42% of the votes in a statewide poll. The event is a chance for Rockhampton families to come together in recognition of carers who make a difference every day.
“This event is a celebration of Rockhampton’s community spirit and a chance to shine a light on carers who make a difference every day,” Mr Toohey said.
