What’s Happening?

Rockhampton local Cameron Stitt will take part in Cancer Council Queensland’s The Longest Day challenge on Tuesday 10 November 2026.

Cameron and several friends will tackle the endurance golf marathon at Rockhampton Golf Club, marking his first attempt at the event. This year’s challenge carries special meaning for Cameron, who is participating in honour of his father following a lung cancer diagnosis.

Why It Matters

Cameron’s father was diagnosed with stage four small cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of lung cancer, last Christmas. Watching his father undergo treatment has given Cameron a deeper appreciation of the challenges people with cancer face.

He hopes his participation will help raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland’s research, prevention and support services. Reflecting on his father’s experience, Cameron said the physical demands of the golf marathon seem small in comparison.

“Seeing how strong my Dad has been throughout his treatment so far has given me an appreciation for the challenges cancer patients face every day. Playing 72 holes of golf is nothing compared to that.”

Local Impact

Cameron’s fundraising efforts have already attracted generous support, showing how local communities can come together for families affected by cancer.

Beyond raising money, he hopes the response will encourage other families facing similar circumstances.

“The support I have so far received from others has truly blown me away. People have been incredibly generous and I hope others facing a cancer diagnosis can see that people are there for them, and they do not face this alone.”

By the Numbers

The Longest Day challenges participants to test their endurance while raising funds for people affected by cancer.

  • 72 holes: Cameron and his friends will attempt to complete this distance in a single day at Rockhampton Golf Club.

  • More than $3,000: Cameron has already raised close to this amount for Cancer Council Queensland before his first challenge.

  • 36, 54 or 72 holes: Participants can choose between three distances, depending on how far they want to push themselves.

Zoom In

One of the most meaningful parts of the event will be having Cameron’s father there to support him. His father plans to follow alongside him in a golf cart, cheering him on throughout the challenge.

For Cameron, his presence will provide both encouragement and a personal reminder of why he decided to participate.

“Dad has always been an inspiration to me, and having him alongside me on the day will give me a constant reminder why I am there and help me push on.”

Zoom Out

The Longest Day is a national endurance golf fundraiser supporting Cancer Council’s cancer research, prevention and support services.

Although the official event day falls on Monday 9 November, participants can complete their challenges throughout November and December.

The flexible schedule allows individuals and groups to organise their golf marathons while contributing to Cancer Council’s work.

What To Look For Next?

Cameron and his friends will take to Rockhampton Golf Club on Tuesday 10 November, hoping to complete their challenge with his father cheering them on.

With strong fundraising support already behind him, further donations could help Cameron make an even greater contribution to Cancer Council Queensland.

Locals can support Cameron directly through his official fundraising page. Those interested in joining The Longest Day can also find more information or register at longestday.org.au.
