Turbines arrive for Isaac Power Station

GE Vernova LM6000 gas turbines has arrived.

What’s happening?

QPM Energy Limited has marked a major step in its Isaac Power Station project, with two GE Vernova LM6000 gas turbines arriving in Brisbane.

The turbines, generators and associated equipment are now in secure storage. They will later be transported to Moranbah for installation at the Isaac Power Station site.

The company announced the update on 18 May 2026, as it continues work on the gas-fired power project in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Chief Executive Officer David Wrench said the arrival was a strong moment for the project.

“It’s tremendous to see these turbines in Queensland ready for the Isaac Power Station. QPM and Queensland are fortunate to have these GE Vernova units available to help power our future given the global boom in AI and data centre energy demand. With our significant gas reserves and resources, infrastructure asset base and power generating capability, QPM has a unique platform to deliver value for shareholders.”

Why It Matters?

The arrival gives QPM Energy important equipment for the Isaac Power Station before installation begins.

The company secured the turbines under a fixed-price contract in June 2025. That move helped it avoid global supply chain pressure, rising prices and equipment lead times of more than three years.

The project is also tied to Queensland’s growing energy needs. QPM Energy said demand is being driven by industrial electrification, artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centre growth.

By the Numbers

  • 112 megawatts is the planned capacity of the Isaac Power Station in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
  • US$100 million is the independent valuation placed on the turbines by the project financiers.
  • A$138 million had been invested in development, capital expenditure and financing costs by the end of March 2026.

Local Impact

For Moranbah and the Bowen Basin, the project adds another energy asset in a region already tied closely to resources and industry.

The turbines are currently in Brisbane, but their next planned move is to Moranbah. Their arrival brings the project closer to physical works at the Isaac Power Station site.

The project also has key approvals in place from Isaac Regional Council and the Queensland State Government.

Zoom In

QPM Energy has also signed a Connection Project Delivery Agreement with Powerlink Queensland.

That agreement is designed to support the power station’s grid connection.

The company has also arranged a financing facility to fund the capital cost of construction.

Together, these steps show the project has moved beyond planning alone. It now has major equipment, approvals, grid connection progress and construction funding support.

Zoom Out

Gas-fired generation equipment is facing global pressure. QPM Energy said long lead times and rising prices are affecting supply worldwide.

By securing the turbines in 2025, the company placed itself ahead of some of those delays.

The independent valuation also added weight to the purchase. The turbines were assessed at more than 40 per cent above QPM Energy’s original purchase price.

What To Look For Next?

The next phase will centre on moving the turbines from secure storage in Brisbane to Moranbah.

From there, installation at the Isaac Power Station site will become the key project marker. Further updates are likely to focus on construction timing, grid connection progress and financing delivery.
