What’s happening?
Powerlink will hold community information sessions in Central Queensland this May.
The sessions will help locals learn more about synchronous condensers planned for the region.
Community members can meet the project team, view information displays and ask questions.
The sessions will also explain how synchronous condensers help maintain grid stability.
Powerlink spokesperson Chris Garlick said representatives would visit Gladstone, Stanwell and Nebo in May.
“We’re holding these sessions so communities across Central Queensland understand Powerlink’s responsibilities in providing power system strength and the role of synchronous condensers,” Mr Garlick said.
“The installation of four synchronous condensers in Central Queensland is part of Powerlink’s broader program of work to strengthen the network, ensuring Queenslanders have access to reliable power.”
More Powerlink project details are available on the Powerlink projects page. Powerlink’s website lists Central Queensland projects including Stanwell Synchronous Condenser, Calliope River Synchronous Condensers, Gladstone Hub and several transmission line projects.
Why it matters?
Central Queensland is a key part of Queensland’s changing energy network.
Powerlink says synchronous condensers support power system strength as the energy mix changes.
That means these projects are not just about new infrastructure.
They are also about helping keep electricity supply stable for households, businesses and industry.
For communities near Stanwell, Gladstone, Bouldercombe, Calliope and Banana, the sessions offer a chance to ask direct questions.
Local Impact
The Stanwell session is a strong Rockhampton and Central Queensland story.
Stanwell sits near Rockhampton, and the project has a direct local connection.
The Gladstone session also matters across the wider Central Queensland region.
Several Powerlink projects listed for Central Queensland sit around Gladstone, Calliope, Callemondah and nearby transmission corridors.
The local projects best suited for Rocky and Central Queensland coverage include:
- Banana Range Wind Farm Connection Project, about 20km west of Biloela.
- Bouldercombe to Larcom Creek Reinforcement Project, starting near Rockhampton.
- Boulder Creek Wind Farm Connection Project, about 40km southwest of Rockhampton.
- Calliope River Synchronous Condensers, at Calliope River Substation in Callemondah.
- Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Line Reinforcement Project, between Callide and Gladstone.
- Gladstone Project, a transmission upgrade program around Gladstone.
- Gladstone Hub, located in Gladstone and Callemondah.
- Stanwell Synchronous Condenser, near Rockhampton.
- Theodore Wind Farm Connection Project, about 20km east of Theodore.
By the numbers
- Four synchronous condensers are planned for Central Queensland as part of Powerlink’s wider network strengthening program.
- Two confirmed local sessions will be held in Stanwell and West Gladstone across May 21 and May 22.
- Nine Central Queensland Powerlink projects listed in the supplied details have a clear Rocky or wider CQ coverage fit.
Zoom In
The Stanwell session will be held at Stanwell Community Hall, 4 Marion Street, Stanwell.
It will run on Thursday, May 21, from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The West Gladstone session will be held at Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct, 1 Pengelly Street.
It will run on Friday, May 22, from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Both sessions are informal drop-ins.
That means locals can attend during the session time and speak with the project team.
Zoom Out
Powerlink’s project list shows several Central Queensland works in progress.
These include transmission lines, substations, renewable energy connections and construction projects.
For Rockhampton and surrounding communities, the Stanwell and Bouldercombe-linked projects are the strongest local angles.
For Gladstone and Calliope communities, the Calliope River and Gladstone-linked projects are the closest fit.
Together, the works show how Central Queensland remains central to Queensland’s power network planning.
What To Look For Next?
The May sessions should give locals a clearer view of how the planned works may affect their area.
Residents will be able to ask Powerlink about project timing, local works and the role of synchronous condensers.
Further updates are expected through Powerlink’s project pages as each Central Queensland project progresses.
