What’s happening?
Mount Morgan’s Wattle Day Festival is set to return on Saturday, 6 September, from 9am to 2.30pm at the Mount Morgan Heritage Railway Complex, 1 Railway Parade. The free community event will feature live performers, artisan market stalls, food trucks, amusement rides, a petting zoo, and hands-on creative workshops. This year’s headline act is Australian Idol contestant Jaymon Bob, and free wattle seedlings will be supplied by Golden Mount Nursery.
Why it matters
Now in its tenth year, the festival has grown into one of the region’s most vibrant events. It is proudly organised by Mount Morgan Promotion and Development with support from Rockhampton Regional Council through a $2,000 Community Assistance Program grant. The program helps non-profit organisations deliver projects and events that enhance the region’s well-being.
Local impact
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said Mount Morgan is a special place and the council was pleased to support the festival. “I’ve spent many years attending the Wattle Day Festival and it’s always a big winner with locals and visitors alike,” Mayor Williams said.
Councillor Drew Wickerson said Jaymon Bob will be central to the free family event at the Mount Morgan Railway Museum. “Mount Morgan has such special history and the Wattle Festival, celebrating the Mount Morgan Wattle, brings people to the town to support local businesses and explore one of our most historic townships,” Cr Wickerson said.
Mount Morgan Promotion and Development President John Steinberger said the festival provides an economic boost to the town. “Our town is semi-rural in nature and the Festival allows us to promote the artistic and local cottage industry we have,” Mr Steinberger said.
